
Nicholas Burris is an Associate Attorney with Greenberg Trial Lawyers. Nick's practice focuses on criminal defense, appellate litigation, civil rights, and asset forfeiture.
Since joining the team at Greenberg Trial Lawyers, Nick has obtained favorable results for clients charged in both state and federal courts. Nick works closely with his clients and Mr. Greenberg to devise and implement a personalized defense plan with a single objective: win.
After earning bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice, and obtaining a certificate in Paralegal Studies, Nick enrolled in DePaul University's College of Law where he graduated with a certificate in criminal law.
Attending law school in the evening, he worked full-time for the Homicide Task Force of the Cook County Public Defender's Office. Licensed to practice under Supreme Court Rule 711, Nick participated in more than a dozen serious jury trials.
He was also tasked with spearheading the office's efforts in sentencing remands under Miller v. Alabama and Montgomery v. Louisiana. His work procured the immediate release of three individuals who had been sentenced to life in prison for crimes committed in their youth, and substantial sentencing reductions for dozens of others.
Nick is a member of the Illinois Bar Association, the bar for the Northern District of Illinois, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Chicago Bar Association.
